Magic is a unique experience. Having seen hundreds of shows over the years (from comedy to Riverdance, to circus, music and so much more) I can honestly say that I’ve never found anything that even comes close to the experience of seeing something truly magical. Even the most expensive Broadway show cannot compare to that raw feeling of wonder created by a close-up magician just inches away from you.
That isn’t to say that those high-budget theatre shows aren’t great; in fact quite the opposite—I love theatre and most performance art. However, it does illustrate exactly why so many companies hire close-up magicians when looking to impress their clients: a great close-up magician can perform for just a few minutes and create a memory that lasts forever. That’s why magic is so unique and that’s why I feel as though being a magician is the best job in the world.
I can’t imagine how difficult it is to choose which close-up magician to hire. There are so many close-up magicians with great websites, cool photos and such that it must be a nightmare to decide on one.
Here’s a useful piece of advice (whether you hire me, or anyone else): look for a professional magician. A professional magician is someone, like myself, whose only job is to perform as a close-up magician. I don’t have to hold up a day job and fit my performances into my spare time. Instead, my sole income is from performing as a magician.
There are hundreds (possibly thousands) of great amateur magicians and if getting a magician at a very low price is your only concern, an amateur magician would be perfect. However, professional magicians often have much more performance experience and have to be consistently fantastic performers as it’s the only way they’ll pay their bills at the end of the month.
I’ll try to detail some other useful ways of how to choose a magician in future blog posts. In the mean time, I thought this blog could have some more imagery, so here goes:

This weekend was a travel nightmare for everyone across the UK, which certainly doesn’t make things easy for a close-up magician.
First, I battled my way through the amazing Snowdonia landscape to work as a close-up magician for a Christmas party. Being high up meant that the snowstorms were strong and driving was tricky, but I still ensured that I was there on time and ready to do my duties as a magician!
Next, I battled the freezing ice through country lanes in Bristol to work as a magician for a house party and then finally to Berkshire, battling through thick fog and snow to work as a wedding magician, where the snow was well over a foot deep.
I arrived at all gigs early and mostly importantly, didn’t need to cancel any of them even though the weather was working totally against me. This, I think, is the key to being a professional magician; being completely reliable and ensuring that nothing gets in the way of me performing when I have been hired to do so!
So, if you need a reliable close-up magician in Gloucester or anywhere else in the country, feel free to get in touch any time! Come rain, snow, ice or whatever, I’ll be there whenever you need me (queue Baywatch theme tune).
I’m getting a lot of enquiries for working as a magician for Christmas parties. This time every year, companies all over the world hire magicians for their parties. Normally the magician would perform during the drinks reception or during a sit-down meal. Adding a great close-up magician to your party is a fantastic way to add some fun to your event.
While I am already booked to work as a party magician for many days over Christmas, it’s still worth getting in touch as I am in contact with dozens of Christmas party magicians all over the country, so if I’m not available, I can quickly find you other great magicians that are!
Feel free to visit my magician contact page to get in touch today – I look forward to hearing from you!
I’ve blogged about magic for years; but that has been specifically to give close-up magicians ideas for ways to improve their tricks and performances. This blog has a completely different concept: to update my clients and friends of my life as a professional magician.
So, welcome to the blog. This is my new website, which I launched today. I hope you like the new imagery, photographs and branding!
If I don’t update regularly over the next couple of months, it’s very likely because the Christmas season of gigs is about to kick off. If you are looking for a close-up magician for your Christmas party, please get in touch; if I’m already booked, I am always happy to recommend other magicians that I have worked with before.
Thanks for tuning in — I hope this blog turns out to be of interest!
