Close-up Magician: A magician who performs magic with cards, coins and borrowed objects from just a few feet away.

Table Magician: A magician who performs close-up magic at your table between the courses of a meal.

Walkaround Magician: A magician who mingles with your guests, for example at a cocktail reception or garden party.

Street Magician: Not someone you’d normally hire, but the type of magician who performs close-up magic on the street. There are two types of street magicians: the ones that attract massive crowds (and normally work for tips) and the type that approach small groups at a time. The latter are essentially performing walkaround magic but instead of doing it for a cocktail reception, they’re busy doing it outside Boots and Tescos.

The marquee housed a very large wedding with over 200 people. With this many people, it would be impossible for one magician to visit all the guests and therefore I arranged for a second magician to perform alongside me. Being in constant contact with many of the country’s top magicians (some of them, like my friend Noel, call me more times than any human could handle), I was able to arrange a second magician within twenty minutes of the request.

The other magician and I performed for two hours around the tables, ensuring that every single guest got to see us. I put together a Tewkesbury magician page on my website with info of my other performances in the area. I am booked to perform in Tewkesbury a few more times this year so look forward to returning!

The Evening of Deception is a show that I co-organise with two other magicians in Cheltenham. It is based in the studio theatre at The Everyman Theatre. We have always sold out and this year was no exception.

I performed a thirty-minute show featuring some new tricks (we then had two other magician guests). As my main focus is to perform close-up magic, I always use this run of shows to work on new material. This helps me identify what tricks I will continue to develop and perform in similar shows over the next year.

I had a fantastic time this year and really hope to return to Cheltenham soon!

I performed at the prestigious American Legion’s Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball in Washington, DC. I joined 25 magicians from all around America (I was the only non-American) to perform for the guests and 25 inspiring recipients of the Medal of Honor award.

It was an evening, and a show, that I will never forget.

It’s easy to assume all close-up magicians get booked up during Christmas (and most do!), but sometimes the timings fall right that even a busy a magician can perform at your event. For example, I just booked a show in the afternoon for this weekend in the same town that I am performing in for the evening. Therefore, I was able to take the booking.

But if I am already booked during a time that you need a close-up magician, I am always happy to source other magicians who are available for you. I only ever recommend magicians that I have worked with in the past (normally at things like corporate Christmas parties) to ensure that they are of high quality!
